The recent acquisitions of Spanish Peaks and Moonlight Basin tipped the scales, rendering Big Sky 400 acres heavier than any ski area in North America, but still it’s not Bozeman’s favorite. The people’s choice remains Bridger Bowl. And while Montanans have long told outsiders that it snows year round—it does, really—most recreationists know that the mountain activities get cranking when the sun is on this side of the equator. In summer, the hills actually are alive with critters large and small, as well as local jocks taking to the trails, crags, and rivers.
