In 2011, Montana’s second-largest economic sector was tourism, with estimates for the statewide expenditures nearing $12 billion. Year after year, the number one activity for those many visitors is fly-fishing, which is no surprise as Montana’s watersheds and public stream-access laws are the envy of the world. For those who can’t or don’t want to learn spey casting, the Mad Mile and Upper Yellowstone offer good whitewater runs and floating is a rite of passage on the lower Madison and Jefferson rivers.

If you're looking to...  soak in water that's been geothermally heated, we'd have to point you towards Norris Hot Springs, Bozeman Hot Springs, or Chico Hot Springs, which is located in Paradise Valley and on the National Register of Historic Places.

Notes:

Fly-fishin' folks might enjoy "An Angler's Historical Tour of the Spring Creeks in Paradise Valley," by outfitter Eric Adams.
